Work is Rest

image

I am writing after a long time almost after 5 months. I had taken a break from my work and was at home for a while and I thought would write a lot. Being home I got into a sedentary life style and became lazy. Got into an inactive mode.  When we are working we are in active mode and can achieve more. The gaps you get between your work are better utilized.

Just went through a phase recently of over working. That was completely  insane. The inactive mode and overactive mode are almost the same. Both make your mind numb. We need to strike a good balance.
Work is very essential for our physical, mental and financial needs. Work is rest indeed. I love to challenge myself to cope up with the pressures. Read More

This holiday we decided, instead of staying in a hotel we will stay in a house. So we booked a house and when we reached, there was a caretaker to receive us.  She couldn’t speak a word of English. A sweet smiling middle aged lady from Switzerland (frankly speaking, I don’t know her origin). She welcomed us with a smile and started showing us around the house. Then she explained me how to use all the utilities and the system of the garbage. I couldn’t understand a word what she was saying, but understood every thing by the sign language. I made a cup of Indian tea for her and through her expressions she was thanking me and telling me how much she enjoyed it.

Many years ago I had been to Columbia, South America on a Rotary Exchange Programme, where you stay with Rotarian families and learn about each other’s culture. I stayed with many families who didn’t speak any English and I knew very little Spanish which I learnt basic Spanish language for the programme. However, each stay was a very beautiful experience as the warmth, love and giving was visible without any spoken words.

Planet Holiday Continues…

During our holiday in Switzerland I got an opportunity to do para gliding. Though I fly planes, but surely this was a different experience. I was taken over a mountain cliff, run with the instructor till the time you gain momentum and take off. You glide along the direction of the winds and gain altitude with the thermals. It was an amazing experience. Looking at the Interlaken town and the Thun lake from the ground level is different than having a bird’s eye view. Your perception changes. You get a broader and a whole picture of the place.the place looked prettier; the beautiful town surrounded by mountains and lakes. It’s beauty looked magnificent. And gliding along the winds gives a sense of let go. Just flow…

While we were on the holiday, it was pouring in Mumbai non stop for three days. The whole city was flooded. We got the news and were worried whether there were any leakages in the house and gave instructions to guard every thing properly.

PLANET HOLIDAY

image

We as a family are on a holiday after a long span of time. As we were excited doing our packing, planning, things to do and places to visit; my husband said, we have to make a promise, that on our holiday we will not fight and be more tolerant of each other. It sounded difficult though, but we all agreed and said, we will try our best.

Now it’s almost two weeks and we fairly did a good job. I had decided to keep quiet and let go of issues which unnecessarily linger on to. And it was easy, as the mind was filled with excitement of seeing places and absorbing them. We hired a car and my husband drove us down. First five days we went to Thun, a small town in Switzerland. We rented a house lake touching and were lost in the beauty of the mountains, peaks, the lakes. Enjoyed kayaking, para gliding and walking around. Next we drove down to Florence. I had no idea about this city. I always thought, Florence was all about romance and the beauty. But I learnt physics, architecture, poetry, art and science here. Galileo, Micheal Angelo, Dante, Leonardo da Vinci and Marconi are from this great city. Learnt about the Renaissance period of 14th century which changed the thinking of the world.

My First Date With Osho

image

It was 5th May, 2005. I was very new in my command. I had a flight from Calcutta to Mumbai. After takeoff we got into very rough weather and both the wind shields cracked. We returned back to Calcutta and landed safely. This incident did shake me up.

Next day I operated a flight to Delhi. It was the old terminal building. There was a book shop near our Despatch. I was hanging around there and thinking of the incident, I saw ‘Courage’ by Osho. I picked up the book. I remember the book gave me lot of courage and what it taught me was, to live a life of courage, which means have the courage to live the life the way you want. Be the master of your own life.

When I read Osho, I felt he speaks my language and our thoughts are quite similar. I kept picking up books by him one after the other. They enriched me. I learnt so much from him. He introduced me to the spiritual world, the other dimension. Osho opened my mind. He says our minds have been conditioned over the years by our parents, teachers, society and religion. Firstly de condition your mind and start afresh. I was willing to do that. Clear your mind and create your own meaning and live life on your own terms. Life is like a personal signature and have your own.

Buddy-My Master: 3

Parenting

Few days back, Buddy’s trainer approached me for his mating with a beautiful cocker spaniel. I saw her pictures and instantly approved of her. Buddy will meet his lady love, mate her, get her pregnant, and after giving his sperm will be done with her. No responsibility of bringing the puppies, nursing them or teaching them anything. Once they are born, he won’t even know he is the father. The mother plays an important role; she bears the puppies, nurses and takes care of them.

In nature, once the male specie copulates with the female specie, his job is over. After that he is on a hunt for the next one. Most of the animals follow this rule except for a sea horse, who takes the eggs in his pouch until they mature. The birds are different; they choose their partner, build their nest together and bring up their offspring. They nurture the offspring until they have learnt to fly. Once they have, the couple sets them free.

Buddy-My Master: 2

Puberty

Buddy is almost 2 years old now. I have been noticing for many months he has hit puberty and his hormones are overactive.  He has been humping the sofa,  the cushions or what ever he gets hold of . Not only that, when any guest visits us he rides on their back and enjoys himself.  I don’t know about the guests, how they feel ; usually I see a smile on their face. image

Now this is natural for Buddy.  He is growing up and his sexuality should be respected.  Had Buddy’s mother been around I don’t think she would have said,  “Buddy – stop it.  Gandi Baat”.   Just imagine your teenage child doing all this.  Oh My God!! The parents, people around watching all this,  the teachers,  principal would have broke all hell lose. The child would have been declared a pervert.  He / she would have been taken to a counsellor.  The counsellor would have sent the child to a sexologist.  No way!! It’s Gandi Baat. Read More

Territorial
Buddy

I never had a pet in my childhood.   Actually speaking, I have been very scared of dogs and wouldn’t go any where close to them.  Firstly I would like to thank ” Buddy ” my pet, who taught me tolerance and love towards his fellow beings .

My son wanted a dog since childhood, so finally we got him one; a cute,  energetic Cocker Spaniel, Buddy.  He came to our house when he was 6 weeks old. Though my son promised to take all responsibility, besides playing with him, he doesn’t do much.  One morning I took him for a walk. It was early morning and as we were walking through the by lanes of my area,  a bunch of dogs came charging behind us.  I was petrified, almost in tears.  As we walked further, another gang of dogs came charging behind Buddy.   I could only escape the situation by seeking help from passers by,  they surrounded us and shooed the gang away.

This and That

This and That

I always wonder, it’s our predetermined destiny that rules our life or we make our own destiny.

Our fate is sealed at the time of conception.  A lot depends on what genes did you pick up from 23 chromosomes each.  Your looks, your intelligence, your personality and even your medical issues are dependent on your genes.   Once you are out of the womb, what environment and exposure you get; your parents,  your teachers, your friends and your surroundings help develop your personality.  Then you are on your own.   70 % is your inheritance and rest is, what you do with your life.

Genes play a very important role in your physical and mental set up.  We had gone for a party once and met a very renowned cardiologist.   My friend asked him, “Doctor, what do we eat and do”, so that we don’t have any problems related to heart.   He smiled and said, you don’t have to do anything, every thing depends on your genes.  Yes agreed genes do matter, but to fit into your jeans one has to work hard.
