I was bogged down with stress. Flying a lot , a small child to handle, home , fitness and what not. Couldn’t cope up. All this made me very hyper . Someone suggested to me do meditation. “It will calm you down and your productivity will increase” is what they said.
And so I embarked at a meditation centre in Vile Parle E to find out . They told me initial course is 5 days. Following that we have advance courses where one can levitate, where one can fly !! I was so excited and I enrolled myself immediately. The teacher would come home and teach me the basic course first .
I told my husband and son that very soon I will start flying . They both couldn’t stop laughing . My son tells me , so mom will you go flying from home straight to your your flight . I was very angry with both of them and told them you see when I do it .
Next day I called up the teacher . He was in Vashi and spoke to me very softly . He told he is teaching the flying mediation . He said he will come the next day to teach me. I kept dreaming of levitating and was on top of the world .
Next day he came to my place . First he did some puja and then he gave me a long talk . I was just not interested in his ‘gyan’ and told him – just start the meditation! I wanted to fly. After half an hour he whispered a word in my ears and told me this is your secret mantra. If you have any other distracting thoughts then think of this mantra . I was asked to sit for 20 minutes in silence with my eyes closed. I did it for a while, then opened my eyes to check what was he was doing . That was day 1. On day 2 when he came, he got stuck in the lift . We lived on the 12 th floor . I was very apologetic . However, my son told him, you should have come flying up like Bingo ( those days there was an ad on TV where a man is flying on the carpet ) . He took it very sportingly and smiled.
I finished my 5 days training, didn’t do the advance course . So couldn’t fly .
Read lot of books on meditation after that but nothing helped . I went to Osho ‘s ashram in Poona . There they had various types of meditations . There was laughing meditation . They make you laugh for 45 minutes , you roll on the ground and last 15 minutes silence . Then there is Vipasana where you observe your breath for an hour . One of them is gibberish . Where you go to a room . There are pillows given to you . You hit the pillows to a wall or on the mattress and vent out for 45 minutes followed by silence for 15 minutes . And of course, the dynamic mediation in the morning . Over all it was a good experience with a lovely cuisine to die for. Yes, that’s what I picked from it.
Over the years I realised life is a meditation . You don’t need a specific time to meditate. You can do it all along . When you wake up in the morning you have your cup of tea , just enjoy the tea . Then you go for your shower . Enjoy your bath, the water flowing over you . That’s meditation . Listening to music and doing yoga is a perfect combination . When you have your meals alone, you can feel the aromas of the food . Even eating your food becomes very meditative .When in a group you enjoy the company of people . That serves another purpose .
Meditation is when you are talking to your wife AND only focussing on her . Osho says when a husband and wife are together , there are four people . Husband is thinking of someone and the wife is thinking of someone else . These days there is a crowd as we are thinking of what’s app groups.
It is actually a very effortless exercise . During periods of negative thoughts I say to myself, change the channel . The control is in our hand. Another interesting way is to focus on the gaps between two thoughts . No two thoughts overlap . There is a deafening silence when you do all this . You can practice all this when travelling and are stuck in a traffic jam . That’s my favourite time to practice and look forward to it .
When you are clear of clutter , you have reached a no thought zone , your head becomes lighter, believe me you will start flying .
